PM Supports China's Proposal for Russia-Ukraine War Resolution

PHNOM PENH: Prime Minister Hun Sen has announced Cambodia's support of China’s proposed solution to the Russia-Ukraine war, which calls for respect of international law and the principles of the United Nations Charter.

Speaking at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs' annual review ceremony on Friday afternoon, 3 March 2023, Prime Minister Hun Sen said that China's proposed solution to the Russia-Ukraine war encouraging stakeholders to abide by international law and turn to negotiations and assistance for reconstruction is in line with Cambodia's position on the ongoing war as well. The Prime Minister has called on both sides of the Russia-Ukraine war to accept this proposal as a solution.

"War is the worst way to end a war, and a ceasefire is the best way to end a war," he said.

Last month, 24 February 2023, marked the one-year anniversary of the Russia-Ukraine war. China issued a statement outlining the country’s 12-point position on the crisis, calling for the respect of all countries’ sovereignty, the abandonment of a Cold War mentality, the cease of all hostilities, the resumption of peace talks, the resolution of the humanitarian crisis, the protection of civilians and prisoners of war (POWs), the safe protection of nuclear power plants, the reduction of strategic risks, the facilitation of grain exports, the stopping of unilateral sanctions, the stability of industry and supply chains, and the promotion of post-conflict reconstruction.
